(“GMHA” or the “Company”) is proud to announce that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Pimicikamak Okimawin. Pimicikamak is an indigenous Cree-speaking people whose traditional territory lies in the boreal forest of what is now known as the Canadian Shield north of Lake Winnipeg. Pimicikamak (pim ih chik uh mak) where a lake lies across the river, the land surrounding that place, the people that has inhabited that land since time immemorial, the nation comprised of that people inhabiting that land.
Pimicikamak is a self-determined indigenous nation predating European settlement of Canada. By virtue of the signing of Treaty 5 in 1875, Te-pas-te-num on behalf of Pimicikamak, allowed settlers to share the traditional territory.
Pimicikamak’s investment in Green Mountain Health Alliance is an investment in the future of Pimicikamak Okimawin, providing much needed economic development potential for its people.
